The first thing to know is that there is no right or wrong answer. Every photographer will have different preferences. Truth be told, the photograph is ultimately about you, so do what feels best.

Having that said, there are a few things that I would suggest to avoid and things to shoot for.

Do Wear:

-What you like to wear and what you feel good in, that’s the most important.

-Coordinating outfits are great.

-Accents and colors that compliment each other are the goal. If she is wearing a particular colored top, maybe his collared undershirt can accent that color. If he is wearing a certain color, maybe she can accent it with her accessories.

-Colors that you know work well on you.

-The feeling you want to convey; lighter shirts on top give the pictures a more casual and bright look. Darker shirts on top give the portraits a more serious and thoughtful feel.

Do Not Wear:

-All black or all white tops, it does not create much visual interest and can make for a tricky exposure

-Big logos

-Busy patterns that may overwhelm the photo, and distract attention from the two of you and your expressions

-Things that are too reflective, some eye make-ups that have glitter in them, and things that shimmer will also reflect the camera flash. They can be distracting and can look a little weird.

-Try not to wear the same exact outfit as the other

Hope that helps!

Wedding Photo Booth

March 26, 2008

I’ve been searching for a good company to work with in regards to supplying a photo booth rental at weddings. I came across this company, PartyBooths.com I like them because the booth itself is the newest and classiest that I found. If you’re setting one of these up at your reception, you want to make sure it matches the decor of the venue and your wedding. Photographically I like this company for a few reasons, 1. the lighting is professional quality, not some little flash in regular photo booths, 2. the backgrounds can be your own, you can buy interesting patterns at a fabric store. I would love to see a Damask pattern in Camel or Burgundy, the options are endless. 3. They are less expensive than other companies that provide the same service. I had a great time volunteering for True Story Theater. It is a nonprofit ensemble based in the Boston area, they use theater for community development and social healing. Their work is primarily based on a form of improvisation called Playback Theatre, now seen in over 50 countries around the world. Check out more about them here.

To inquire about having them perform for your organization or to find out more email info@truestorytheater.org.

New Album Options

March 21, 2008

The WPPI conven-
tion was excellent. I learned so much, it was really inspiring. On top of polishing up our business practices, I got to research, sample, touch and hold all the new albums available to professional photographers. The most exciting new collection to our line up is the Cypress Album. They are truly something amazing. To hold and feel the quality of these custom, hand made albums was the clincher for me. For more info about the Cypress Albums, click on the link above.

I’m Off!…

March 13, 2008

…. to Las Vegas for the WPPI convention. I will try to answer as many phone calls and emails as I can while I’m away. But if not, all inquiries will be returned after Wed. March 19th. Hope all is well!

This week I will be getting ready to go to the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International convention in Las Vegas. I will be looking for new albums to offer. Knowing the latest and greatest possibilities to offer my clients is important. So you can be sure that if you hire Dias Photography, you will be getting the best quality products currently available. I am also interested in learning better business/technical practices to truly serve my clients as best I can.

The Sisterhood

March 10, 2008

Should women run the world? Well, if they did the way this cooperative household is, it might not be too bad. A place where support, creativity and respect rule. Boston has had it’s share of progressive women and this is today’s picture. Open and nourishing, honest and encouraging, this group of ladies take care of themselves (and know how to throw a good party!). Musicians and performers, artists and intellectuals, it was a pleasure to photograph them all. I hope you like the pictures : )
