We Can All Help Haiti

January 14, 2010

According to the American Red Cross website, you can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti.  Go here for more info: http://newsroom.redcross.org/2010/01/12/disaster-alert-earthquake-in-haiti/

Last night my fiance and I went to the opening night performance of  In The Heights at the Boston Opera House.  This contemporary Broadway musical touched us, inspired us and entertained us for the entire performance.  It was a story of mostly Latino immigrants living (or trying to live) the American dream in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York.  Filled universal themes throughout like romance, death, hope and aspiration, the show was also light-hearted and easy to love.  The characters were well developed and the story was well written.  It demonstrated it’s complexity by addressing the inherent racism even among minority communities.  We both enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it to others.

For all those brides and Mom’s reading this who think that their fiances and husbands would never go to a musical… this is the one to see.  It has a strong hip-hop vibe to it and lots of beautiful people.  Stop at Max and Dillon’s (around the corner) after the show for good atmosphere, great drinks and tasty food.  Thumbs up… Edson likes this  : )

Think Happy Thoughts

January 11, 2010

Happy Monday morning folks!  We are truly blessed.  I just walked over to the faucet  and guess what came out… clean fresh drinkable water.   Heat, electricity, indoor plumbing, man… we got it made. Gotta be thankful for that.  Anyway,  here’s the quote:

“The free thinking of one age is the common sense of the next”   Matthew Arnold (1822 – 1888)

Here we have our in house baby model and future president of DiasPhoto, Aviva Luna.  She’s sporting a beautifully hand woven hat from Boston Beanies. The straightest route to a Dada’s heart….  is through his baby girl!  It’s a really beautiful hat.  Check them out here.

Photographing proposals have been so heart warming, so valuable and just such a wonderful thing to capture.  The groom and I planned it out so that I could capture this moment on film without the bride knowing.  Needless to say she was totally surprised.

It was an exhilarating experience for me.  Patiently waiting behind a tree for the couple to arrive, my heart ran with anticipation.  Seeing the expression of love on the brides face and being witness to such a joyous moment is really one of the greatest things about this job.  I know from personal experience the value of having the proposal photographed because I had my own proposal photographed.  Looking back at those photos and reliving that time in our lives  is so precious.  Any guys out there who are considering proposing, check us out first.  We’re currently offering the ptp (photograph the proposal) for free!  Email at Edson@DiasPhoto.com

Think Happy Thoughts

December 18, 2009

As you may know, this is the new blog and with it we are considering a few new features for the new year.  The idea is to have a recurring segment that readers can know to look for, say… every Monday morning.  I know Monday’s can be difficult for some of us and I love hearing happy words, especially in the morning.  I can be a little grumpy before 10 am.  What do you think, a few happy thoughts, or a positive quote on every Monday morning.  We’d love to hear your thoughts, leave a comment!

Here are a few favorites from our most recent wedding. Looking for a new color scheme, check out this tangerine and chocolate themed wedding. You’ll probably notice that the bride chose all different style dresses and shoes for the wedding. The ceremony was hosted at the Colonial Hotel,
as well as the reception which was held under a tent. The staff at the Colonial Hotel located in Gardner, MA did such a great job. It started raining minutes before the ceremony and luckily, they were prepared. There was an indoor location ready and waiting for us which was bright and beautiful. Did you know that Old Sturbridge Village does weddings? This old world, live museum warms the hearth for your wedding reception in the Oliver Wight Tavern. The candle lit pathways, the 17th century church, horse drawn carriages, as well as many, many other details came together to truly make this a unique wedding. I photographed this wedding this past weekend, and today (Wednesday) all of the photos are edited , the artwork has been done and they are online ready for viewing. Having great images captured on your wedding day is obviously paramount regarding wedding photography, but don’t overlook everything after the wedding. Dias Photography has a small part time staff that sees to it that your photos, all of your print orders, albums, books etc. are all delivered on a timely basis. I was also able to capture the Candid Composition. These were my favorites out of many from this wedding. The couple was so especially tender, kind and warming to be around, I think it shows in their photos and in how they planed their event. For answers to FAQ’s on OSV weddings, follow this link. Hope you like the pictures! : )
