What Matters Most?

June 2, 2008

What matters most? In life, it’s clearly love, relationships and the people we share our limited time with. That’s why wedding celebrations are so great. But in wedding planning, what is most important? The venue, the ceremony…. the secondary ink color on your invitations : ) I’m a bit biased being a wedding photographer and all, but after the party’s over and the honeymoon is a memory, the only things left are the rings and…. the photographs. But not only does a good photographer record the happenings of the day, but he/she captures images of the people of importance to your entire family. 40 years from now, our children could be in the attic cleaning up before a move, and will come across that picture that was taken of Auntie Jane at a wedding and be brought to tears… it’s powerful and it’s real.

So here I share a glimpse of the Thompson Wedding memories. Another beautiful wedding that took place at Zukas Hilltop Barn. Also, the flowers were beautiful and really fresh, provided by Holmes-Shusas, who was rated The Knot’s Best Florist in Worcester County

Jenn and Jay

May 12, 2008

Congrats to Jenn and Jay who recently had a beautiful wedding at Zukas Hilltop Barn.
Their wedding photos will be proofed online in a few hours; here’s a little glimpse of what the wedding looked like. I’ve posted about this wedding before in reference to the band that played. Radiance, was the band and riveting was the party. This wedding was definitely marked by how much fun it was. It was also a stress-free, heart-warming wedding that all enjoyed.

Zukas Hilltop Barn who is one of our preferred vendors, decided to use one of my photos for their latest ad in Bride & Groom magazine. My photo is the reddish-orange sunset shot in the top right. Credit for the cover photo goes to Mary Henebry. It’s always exciting for me to see my work in publications! I also wanted to add that Bride and Groom magazine is a great reference for brides and it’s free! For a free copy click here.

Good Photos: Demo 1

May 7, 2008

What makes a professional photographer better than another? There are many reasons and often times I have to show my clients the difference. These photos are part of a demonstration on what great photos look like compared to standard ones. Educated brides/couples are my best clients, because they know that we offer the highest quality of work. If you know what great work looks like, then you too can be an educated consumer. These two photos were taken this past Saturday at a wedding. If you remember, the weather wasn’t very cooperative; it was actually drizzling at the time. In the photo on the left, you can see the raindrops because the photo was taken with “on-camera flash”. I will almost never use this lighting method because of its apparent problems. I will almost always light photos like the photo on the right. Other problems with the photo on the left are that on-camera flash makes your skin look shiny. It also makes the picture look flat. In the photo on the right you can see that the photo has depth, the bride’s skin looks better and just looks more natural. These are just a few of the differences. Can you tell what else looks better about the photo on the right? If so, leave a comment, I’d love to hear from you.

DJ or a Band?

April 28, 2008

I was in awe after this weekend’s wedding at Zukas Farms. The band did such an amazing job; the crowd was on their feet all night long. Energy was high and the fun lasted all night. They played tons of great songs and the crowd loved it. I was so impressed that I am making them this month’s preferred vendor. The Wilson Stevens’ band Radiance rocked the house in a way that a DJ would be hard pressed to match. Live music always creates an electric ambiance. You can also find lots of other great bands for your wedding at their website. For more information click here. Image courtesy of the Wilson Stevens website.

All-American Altruists

She’s a school teacher and he’s a firefighter. Can you find a better match? Both of them were really great to work with. I’ve been very fortunate in regards to the people who hire me. Every single one of my clients in the past five years, has been a pleasure to work with (truly). I like to think it’s a reflection of me and the the energy I put out. I try to be calm, friendly, sincere and focus on delivering excellent pictures… isn’t that what it’s really all about. In turn, I’ve attracted clients who are the same. Having a wonderful wedding day from start to finish, and everything going off without a hitch is the goal. And we make sure to it that that happens every time. Here are a few of my favorites from Val and Greg’s wedding I hope you enjoy them

Rock the Wedding Bells

December 8, 2007

This was a fun wedding to shoot. Both the bride and groom are into hard rock music and brought an edgy feel to the wedding. Getting married right around Halloween, they went with a fitting, macabre and fun theme. Not so into the kitchy type photography, this couple was able to get loose and allow me to capture more fun and

spontaneous moments. Yet again, as you might notice in the first photograph, I used a reflector to get the lighting just perfect. That’s probably my favorite shot of the day, hope you like it.

Designers Wedding

December 1, 2007

Michaela, the bride at my latest wedding is a graphic designer and did all of the printed materials. Invitations, programs, place cards , table numbers and everything else was all in a matching brown and white theme.

The lighting in these photos was achieved by using a reflector. To do this with only one person is not really possible. I will always have an assistant at every wedding to help create images such as these, and it makes all the difference.

They were a great couple to work with. Here are some of my favorites from the day.

Another Love Letter

November 24, 2007

Here’s a an image I just finished working on for a wedding couple. On the day of the wedding before the ceremony, I asked both the bride and the groom to write a note to each other. They would only see this note after they were married. So today is the day! Congrats to Michaela and Scott. You had a beautiful, fun and creative wedding that I am happy to have been a part of. Happy Holidays!

Left Coast, Right Coast

November 19, 2007

Congrat-
ulations to Sarah and Ephraim, a truly irreverent couple. Ephraim, originally from CA, met Sarah a Weymouth, MA native while they were in college out on the left coast. An intelligent, discerning young couple who are committed to each other and helping the world through their work for non-profit organizations. This wedding was remarkable because of the extraordinary love and openness of not only the couple and their families but of the guests
as well. This was a great wedding to be a part of, here are a few highlights from the day.
