American Photo Magazine

April 15, 2009

I had the pleasure of attending a lecture presented by Russell Hart, the editor of American Photo magazine. After viewing the work on my website he said he “really liked the pictures” and had these kind words to say about us, “The work is hip but accessible, and visually sophisticated without detracting from the obvious sentiment involved.” A warm thanks goes out to Mr. Russell Hart for his appreciative words.

Brides’ Choice Award 2009

February 23, 2009

We’re excited to share that we’ve bee awarded the Bride’s Choice Award 2009, from WeddingWire.com. This award recognizes vendors from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility. Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the company, the Bride’s Choice Awards are determined exclusively by recent newlyweds (brides and grooms) through surveys and reviews. The winning vendors have set the bar high for this competition, demonstrating excellent service and expertise in their industry.

Rangefinder Magazine

February 15, 2009

I was completely surprised to read that Rangefinder magazine referenced Dias Photo in an article. The article was about wedding photographers using YouTube to show clients their personality. You can read the full article by clicking here. We worked really hard on the video and are very happy with the results. If you haven’t seen it, check it out by clicking here, or on our website www.portraits.diasphoto.com. The cover image was shot by Yervant, one of the best wedding photographers in the world.

Greener Photography

February 12, 2009

Dias Photography is now a member of the Greener Photography organization. What does that mean exactly? The website states: Greener Photography is a place for the photographic community to consider the environment; learn to conserve and better preserve our resources and images; and connect by sharing suppliers, ideas, and methods. Together we can learn how each of us can be more green, advocate for change within our field, and provide a place for informed discussion about how we can make photography greener.

From One Comes Many

February 2, 2009

On our recent trip , I put together this still life made up of various Ecuadorian fruits and memorabilia. My mother-in-law was so kind to have the still life re-created into an oil painting for us. The painting which now hangs in our living room was created by Coca Gil the Ecuadorian painter and winner of the prestigious Golden Paintbrush Award (Pinsel de Oro). I found it interesting to see the photo and painting together.

We’re Back!

January 26, 2009

This years trip to Ecuador was as equally amazing as the last. Different, but amazing. I didn’t focus as much on getting many land/seascapes and artistic photographs as last year. Partly due to the fact that we stayed in the same place and the novelty of a new place had waned. But I did get tons of family photos, marking a new focus in my life due to the arrival of our beautiful child, Aviva! If any of you are looking for a unique Honeymoon destination, the condominium that we stayed in was comfortable, lush and the getaway for couples who have grown a bit tired of traditional vacations. To see where we stayed and to get more information check out their blog here. Here are some of the highlights, hope you enjoy them : ) If you’d like to see the best photos from last years trip to Ecuador click here.

Ecuador!

January 1, 2009

And so we’re off! Just tying up a few loose ends and preparing for our 6 am flight. Hopefully we’ll return with lots of great photos to share. Here is my favorite from last years trip. Happy Holidays and from all of us at Dias Photography, we wish the world peace, happiness and greater joy in the new year.

Top Ten of 2008

December 23, 2008

10. Travel, travel, travel!-2008 brought me to Ecuador, Las Vegas, San Fransisco, Chicago, New York … and several other less exciting places

9. Speaking Engagement-my first of hopefully many more speaking engagements, went off well this past January at Hallmark Institute of Photography. Getting past the fear of public speaking was thrilling.

8. New Website-This August was when we got the new logo and designs for the website, blog, myspace, twitter page, business cards, marketing materials etc.

7. Artist Certification-I’ve always considered myself an artist…. but now so does the city of Boston! : )

6. WPPI-My trip out to Las Vegas for the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Convention was a slam dunk. Goals were met (as well as tons of interesting people), and objectives reached. Hopefully in ‘o9 we can win some print competitions! We can only hope… I’ll keep my fingers crossed : )

5. Our Office Assistant/Editor-this year we decided to go forward with the plan to hire help. It was one of the most beneficial things we did. Getting office/editing help got albums and products to clients faster than ever before. This years weddings have been posted online about 4 days later! It also allowed us to focus our time working on the business and not in the business.

4. 50,000 hits-we just recently received 50,000 website hits since we first started keeping track in Oct. ’07

3. Getting published-we put in a lot of work this year into getting published and it paid off. We were featured in Bride & Groom magazine as well as New England Bride magazine… and on the cover of the Warren Conference Center/Henderson House brochure.

2. The promo video– it came out great and was exactly what we had envisioned

1. Our new child! Aviva’s arrival was one that will be cherished until the end of days.

December is for Engagements

December 1, 2008

Are you getting engaged this December? OK so maybe I actually photographed this couple in November, but it’s still pretty close. I say that only because people get engaged twice as much in December than in any other month. This totally-in-love young couple is getting married at The International a really pretty Golf Club in Bolton, MA. It was bitterly cold that day so we needed an indoor location for this engagement session. The Wedding Coordinator at The International was kind, accommodating and allowed us to shoot there. It also gave me an opportunity to familiarize myself with the location. Overall, the shoot went well. But right at the end, at the last location is when the magic happened, I got the Candid Composition. The way that this couple looked at each other, I could tell that they are so truly in love. Fortunately… I was ready and able to capture that moment! That is the first shot posted here. If you’re engaged and haven’t chosen a photographer yet, give us a call we’re happy to take your picture!
